Does Ed.ai comply with state student data privacy laws?
Last updated: October 15, 2026
Yes. Beyond the federal framework (FERPA, COPPA and the NIST AI Risk Management Framework), Ed.ai’s compliance program covers state student data privacy laws in 40+ jurisdictions, including:
-
California: SOPIPA and CCPA
-
New York: Education Law §2-d
-
Illinois: SOPPA
-
Colorado, Connecticut, Texas and other states
Our commitments
-
No sale of student data.
-
No targeted advertising based on student information.
-
No AI training on student data. Identifiers are masked before student work reaches any language model.
-
US data residency. Student data never leaves the United States (Microsoft Azure West US 3 region, US-hosted models; no cross-border transfers, no offshore processing).
Getting Ed.ai approved in your district
Ed.ai signs the NDPA v2.1 (National Data Privacy Agreement) with a General Offer (Exhibit E): once a district in your state has signed with Ed.ai, other districts in that state can accept the same terms without a new negotiation. State exhibits are ready for California, Texas, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Alabama, and a state addendum is added wherever a state requires extra clauses.
State-by-state coverage, the Security Overview and the sub-processors list are on the Ed.ai Data Privacy Hub. For anything your district review requires, contact privacy@ed.ai.
